I was born and raised in Norfolk and I was originally working for Broadland District Council in the Benefits department.
In August 2023 I brought my beautiful son into the world and decided to take a step back from working to spend time with him. After 18 months of solely being “Mum” I decided it was time to find myself again. I enjoyed working with the Council but felt I wanted to work on a more local section rather than a district council.
I currently live in Attleborough and knew I wanted to work with a Parish that was as close to my local community. I was very grateful when the position for Clerk at Old Buckenham Parish came up. I drive through Old Buckenham every time I go to visit my parents and have always admired the beautiful village.
Becoming Clerk for OBPC has allowed me to keep my roots of working with a Council as well have being more hands on with helping the community.
I have resided in the village on and off most of my life, moving here permanently from the age of 10 years old. I am now 37years old. I attended the primary school from the start of my school life and followed in my parents and other family members footsteps on to the High school.
Having had connections with the village all of my life I’ve seen lots of changes, people coming people going and sadly people passing. Going to pubs with my parents and seeing many locals, everybody knew everybody, and you didn’t get too far without seeing somebody you knew and having a good ole yarn. I can remember visiting Mr Blooms shop on the Green with my nanny for wool and groceries. Just down from there was the butchers where they used to make and sell the best chipolatas, that was a weekly treat.
Bike rides on my little red bike down to Mr Goldsmiths on Fen Street for the biggest pumpkin that we could get in the wheel barrow for nanny to wheel back. Popping over to uncle Basil and aunt Gladys across the road and help dig in the garden in my best red Thomas the Tank Engine wellington boots. Oh I have so many fantastic memories of Old Buckenham and it’s residents. I’ve worked in the village shop and the Gamekeeper pub through my school years
. I worked at the airfield and New Buckenham Kings Head for a spell before landing a full time position at the BP petrol station on the A11 where I met my husband Adrian.
We married at Old Buckenham church in September 2012 and returned two years later to have our daughter, who is now 10 years old, christened there and who is now following in my footsteps and attending the Primary school.
I wanted to throw myself firmly into village life and join the Parish Council and try and give something back to the place that has given me so many awesome memories and make a difference for future generations.
My Family have lived in the village since the 1800s. I was born at Mill Form where I still live. After leaving Old Buckenham Sec. Mod. School, went to Easton Agricultural College before working on the family farm.
20 years ago, put the farm out to contractors and went to work at Snetterton Motor Racing Circuit. Motorsport has always been my passion, becoming a volunteer marshal in 1979.
I retired from full time work two years ago. My hobby, include fishing, DIY, and the band I played drums in the early 80’s have recently reformed.
I am also a trustee of the Friends of Old Buckingham Windmill.
I was born and raised in Kent, just at the end of the so-called swinging sixties, too young to know what really happened and many moons ago.
I have a lovely wife called Jill, who stole my heart 26 years ago and we have two ‘children’ who have now both left university and are now finding their way in the world, Same trouble and work as when they were toddlers just more expensive each time they ask
During COVID, the same as a lot of people, we had a rethink about looking for a life change and re-evaluation of our lives, this led us to look for a new home, where we fell in love with Norfolk and stumbled across Old Buckenham quite by chance.
After only being in Old Buckenham for a few hours viewing properties and seeing the local area, speaking to locals in the village shop, Pub and people on and around the green, we were made to feel extremely welcome by all. People actually talking to you here , and giving you the time of day, which is great.
Sitting on the green by one of the ponds, we both realised Old Buckingham will be our forever home.
January 2021, we completed on Mill house in Mill road, and our new life began.
We are currently renovating/decorating Mill house into our family home, Jill said two years… I say five years… but we will see who is correct….! currently in year 4.
After chatting with one of our neighbours, the idea was put into my head about joining the Parish Council. I immediately realised that I would like to become a more involved member of our community, to help maintain the uniqueness of the village that both my wife and I have fallen in love with.
I hope I can step up to the mark and become a useful member of our Parish council.
I have lived in the village on and off for the last 40 or so years, and have seen lots of people come and go and changes with in the village. I really enjoy living in the village, and its beautiful setting. I have family with in the village too and enjoy spending time with my Grand daughter.
I came to join the Parish Council last year due to a decline in its members and after learning there was a possibility of loosing our village Parish Council. Something I did not want to happen.
Since joining the Parish Council I am enjoying supporting many areas of it and feeling like I am giving something back to the village. .
I’ve been living
with my family in the village for around 20 years. Both our children have
attended the Primary and High Schools in Old Buckenham. I am interested in
ecology and the environment, and a sense of community.
I have been a resident of Old Buckenham since 1996, when I moved here from Swaffham and my wife moved from Potters Bar.
We are known to many villagers as the bikers on the corner, by Rod Alley Pond.
I have had a 40 year career in engineering, starting in manufacturing and moving to design.
The last 26 years were at Multimatic in Thetford, from where I retired from the position of chief engineer March. I now run my own business as a consultant engineer.
I have been a member of the windmill committee for many years, now a trustee of the Friends of Old Buckenham Windmill. I also volunteer at Forncett Industrial Steam Museum.
I have joined the Parish Council with no particular agenda, other than to ensure that the village residents continue to be represented.
My wife and myself have lived in Norfolk since 2012 and in Old Buckenham since May 2018. We love the village, have met some really nice people and look forward to meeting more. I joined the Parish Council as I want to know what is going on where I live and I think that my experience in both work and as a school governor can give something to the PC. As I have expressed concerns about the volume of traffic going through the village, which I think has gone up since we moved to OB, I was happy to take on the lead for road safety.
